What To Bring
Egypt is a traditional Muslim country and local sensibilities should be observed. Whilst you will see other travellers dressed less appropriately we recommend ladies and girls cover their shoulders and wear a longer, lightweight skirt. Men can wear shorts, but all visitors should dress respectively when visiting villages or entering places of worship.
Dress in light cottons between March and October, taking warmer clothing for the evenings between October and March. A sports bra is recommended for the Valley of the Kings donkey trek and good, comfortable footwear is essential for exploring the ancient sites.
Bring a torch, swimming gear and a towel. Keen snorkellers should consider bringing their own equipment – some sets available to rent or buy locally. Most importantly bring sun-protection – suncream, sunglasses and a hat with a brim.
Group Size
This Private Journey can operate with as few as 1 participant, however is aimed at couples, families and small groups of friends travelling together with an upper maximum of around 16 passengers in the group.
Other Information
The tour as described above starts on a Saturday; other start days with a modified itinerary are available – please ask us.
There are several categories of cruise boat on the Nile ranging from 4* to 5* deluxe. The above tour price is based on a 4* cruise boat. Cabin accommodation on 4* boats is always very acceptable – clean and comfortable and with air conditioning. As ever cabin space on boats is restricted and generally the higher star-rated boats have, as you would expect, larger cabins and more on-board facilities. If you would like to consider a higher standard of boat we would be pleased to make suggestions to meet with your needs.
The visit to Abu Simbel is optional and can be made by road or air. Flights do book up in advance, especially at busy times of the year such as Easter and Christmas.
At some times of the year (usually the last 2 weeks of May and first 2 weeks of December) the lock at Esna between Luxor and Aswan is closed for maintenance. Sailing itineraries at this time may be disrupted, with alternative itineraries necessary.
Maximum weight of donkey riders is 80kg (approx. 12.5 stones). Alternative arrangements for travel to the Valley of the Kings will be made at no additional cost for clients of greater weight or those preferring not to ride.
Diving is available at al Quseir; bring log book and certification. Divers should remember the need for one clear day after their last dive before taking any flight.
Operator Remarks
Prices are quoted per person for travel in low season, sharing a twin or double room on a land only basis and are subject to confirmation at time of booking.
