This morning you set off along a road shaded by old cypress trees to the Vignamaggio estate, one of the most historic buildings in the area, where people say the Mona Lisa was born.
Enjoy a guided tour through its beautiful gardens surrounded by camellias and olive groves. Afterwards partake in a wine tasting in an authentic vaulted room in the villa followed by a large buffet lunch prepared by the estates elderly Tuscan cook, paired with local wines made at the villa.
After lunch time at leisure to rest by the villa’s pool or return to Lamole.
In late afternoon make a visit to the medieval castle of Panzano in Chianti and its artisan shops. Dinner reservations tonight have been made in Panzano at the original Tuscan Trattoria Solociccia* (only meat!). The trattoria is not simply a restaurant, it is the home of the renowned Tuscan butcher Dario Cecchini. The restored two-storey building has exposed stone walls, floors are connected by a glass stairway, and the space is decorated with modern art.
Here is the chance to enjoy Dario’s family recipes and good company. Dine with others at group tables with a fixed menu that Dario decides on the day.
After dinner return to Lamole on own and overnight.
Distances: From the farmhouse to Vignamaggio for wine tasting and lunch just a 5 minute drive and from the farmhouse to Panzano is a 20 minute drive.
Notes about Solociccia: The restaurant belongs to one of Italy’s most famous and talked about butchers. The dining room is set up with long group tables where everyone eats together and there are two servings, either at 7:00 pm or at 9:00 pm. The dishes, which change daily, are selected by Dario Cecchini and are served with house wine (1/4 litre per person) and water. The menu includes 3 appetizers, 3 main meat courses, vegetables, coffee and cake. One important note: guests are welcome to bring the own wine without any corkage fees! |
