This morning you set off on the drive to Bandipur which lies some 130kms (4hrs) from Kathmandu, 70kms (2hrs) from Pokhara and 50kms (1.5hrs) from Chitwan. Your drive brings you to Dumre, a roadside market-town and then as you head off the main road, you travel along a winding, uphill track all the way to Bandipur, 7kms away. You are dropped at the entry to Bandipur Bazaar, where you’ll be warmly greeted by the Old Inn staff and walked 100m through the bazaar to The Old Inn. The Old Inn is a fine example of traditional Newari architecture, its four storeys of atmospheric living quarters built entirely of timber and warm red brick. Carved beams and staircases, balconies, south-facing veranda and north-facing terrace all add to the charm. Accommodation comprises of five double, five twin and one triple bedded room, and pleasant (though not attached) bathroom facilities - even these with mountain views. Opening shortly, right in front of the Old Inn is another piece of marvel, which we've aptly named 'Ke Garne' (‘What to do?’) café and bar - built in an old renovated house, a la Old Inn. Food at the Old Inn is mainly rustic Nepali style - simple, delicious and prepared entirely from locally-sourced organic ingredients. On arrival you’ll enjoy lunch, and while away the early afternoon, marvelling at the traditional elegance of the Old Inn or simply enjoy a relaxing siesta. A guided tour of the village environs will be provided in the late afternoon followed by a relaxing evening enjoy superb Himalayan sunset views. You’ll savour the authentic flavour of Nepalese cuisine over the dinner, then sit back and relax in our ‘Ke Garne’ café and bar. |
