From the Swahili Coast to the Source of the Nile and into the Sahara, East Africa encompasses some of the most fabled destinations of great explorers of old. Still much of an adventure for many modern-day travellers, East Africa is rich in wildlife, natural wonders, amazing places and - perhaps surprisingly - ancient sites.
But for those not tempted by the ancient Axumite ruins of Ethiopia or the wealth of pyramids and temples in northern Sudan, East Africa is blessed with something that just about everyone wants to see - wildlife - and plenty of it! From spending a treasured hour with a family of mountain gorillas in Uganda, to spending many hours in the Masai Mara, witnessing one of the greatest migrations on earth, the region is a wildlife enthusiasts dream. Activities also abound. If you really fancy a challenge, how about a trek to the summit of Africa's highpoint - Mt. Kilimanjaro? You could always spend a few days relaxing on the exotic Spice Island of Zanzibar afterwards, as a reward...
