Livingstone has deservedly gained it's reputation as one of the top Adventure Centres in Southern Africa.  Close to the town you can enjoy various adrenaline sports along with other more sedate yet enjoyable activites.  An ideal base for those who love outdoor action and adventure. 

The proximity to the Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River  has made Livingstone an excellent base for travellers from all over the world wanting to explore one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Background

The town of Livingstone first came into existence in 1905 and was named after the famous Victorian missionary explorer, Dr. David Livingstone. It was proclaimed the capital of Northern Rhodesia in 1911 and due to number of European settlers, it enjoyed excellent facilities surpassing any others in the country.

There are still several Edwardian colonial buildings lining the city's main road.  When Lusaka was made the capital in 1935, Livingstone started to change from a thriving city into a quiet town.

There are a number of different eateries and restaurants in Livingstone town, alternatively head down to Livingstone Waterfront overlooking the river - a great place to unwind!

The town retains some Interesting examples of old colonial architecture from the turn of the century including Colliard Memorial Church, the North Western Hotel, and St Andrews Anglican Church.  The Livingstone Museum and the Railway Museum are both also worth a visit. The markets in Livingstone are colourful and lively, heat to Dambwa north or near the police station.
