Background
The town of Livingstone first came into existence in 1905 and was named after the famous Victorian missionary explorer, Dr. David Livingstone. It was proclaimed the capital of Northern Rhodesia in 1911 and due to number of European settlers, it enjoyed excellent facilities surpassing any others in the country.
There are still several Edwardian colonial buildings lining the city's main road. When Lusaka was made the capital in 1935, Livingstone started to change from a thriving city into a quiet town.
