Place to Visit: Savanne Coast

Mauritius’ Wild Deep South

Southern Mauritius, Mauritius

Savanne, the most southerly district of Mauritius, is also the least developed. It has a rugged and often wild coastal area with a number of attractions for those keen to explore away from the more popular resorts further north. Traditional fishing villages, sheltered coves, waterfalls and basalt sea cliffs can be found here, whilst a small cluster of hotels around Bel Ombre provide a choice of accommodation for those wishing to spend longer in this ‘off-beat’ part of the island.

Great Reasons To Visit

  • Witness a dramatic wild and rocky coastline at Gris Gris
  • Visit Domaine de St Felix, the oldest working sugar estate in Mauritius
  • Take a trip to La Vanille, a vast park with nature walks and lush vegetation
