The Archipelago of Colón, or Galapagos Islands, is a collection of volcanically formed isles located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America. The main islands of Santa Cruz, Isabela, San Cristóbal, Floreana, Fernandina, Santiago, Santa Fé, Española, Pinzón, Seymour, Genovesa, Rábida, Daphne, Marchena, Pinta, Darwin and Wolf, together with over 40 smaller islets, make up this archipelago that encompasses an area of about 8,000 square kilometres.

From botany to geology to oceanography and more, Galapagos is fascinating at every level.  Without doubt, it is their incredible wildlife and unique biological richness which today makes them the focus of researchers, travellers and conservation organizations seeking to help preserve the fragile purity of this region.
