Guilin itself is an important cultural city with a history that dates back some 2000 years. It has been the political, economic and cultural centre of Guangxi Province since the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), its trademark Solitary Beauty Peak watching over the city. It is also home to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) tomb of Prince Jingjiang.
