Place to Visit: Moremi Game Reserve

Abundant Leopard

Northern Botswana, Botswana

Moremi Game Reserve, hunted by the Bushman as long as 10,000 years ago, was initiated by the Batawana tribe and covers some 4,871 km, as the eastern section of the Okavango Delta. Moremi is mostly described as one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa. It combines mopane woodland and acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons. It is the great diversity of plant and animal life that makes Moremi so well known. Xakanaxa and Chief’s Island are popular game viewing areas of Moremi.

Great Reasons To Visit

  • Large populations of leopard and wild dog with an excellent chance of spotting lion
  • Experience a tranquil reserve with very few other visitors
  • Unmatched water experience on the channels and waterways of the Okavango Delta

Background

Moremi Game Reserve was the first game reserve to be set aside by a tribal authority in 1963. It is situated in an “ecotone”, an area where river, forest and delta meet dry sand veldt. This confluence of massive forests, crystal clear lakes and streams covered by papyrus supports a huge variety of species.
