Start point of many expedition voyages to Eastern Antarctic, Invercargill is located on the south coast of the South Island of New Zealand and is situated close to the southern tourist attractions of Queenstown, Fiordland, Stewart Island and the Catlins.
Easy to reach from both Sydney and Christchurch, this is the start and end point to many expedition voyages to Eastern Antarctica, the Sub-Antarctic Islands and the Ross Sea.
With a population of 50,000, Invercargill is a bustling town, set in breathtaking surroundings.
Air New Zealand operates regular scheduled services between Invercargill and Christchurch, with services to Wellington scheduled to commence in December 2007. Regular scheduled services to Stewart Island are operated by Stewart Island Flights.

Invercargill has a selection of museums, parks and gardens worth visting, and if you fancy stretching your legs, there are nature walks taking in the beautiful surroundings and its wildlife.
Port Bluff, departure point for many Antarctic Voyages is located a short distance from Invercargill. This small fishing settlement is famous for its Oyster & Seafood Festival, held each May.

Getting Around
Invercargill is flat and easy to get around on foot or by bike.
A public bus service operates six days a week covering the inner city and outlying suburbs and Freebie Bus travels within the inner city free of charge on weekdays.
There there are two taxi companies which provide an excellent service. Both can provide airport transfers if needed.
Invercargill is a 10 minute drive to Oreti Beach, less than 30 minutes to the port town of Bluff – home of the delectable Bluff Oyster; and from the fishing town of Riverton. The Catlins, Fiordland, Queenstown and other desirable locations are readily accessible from Invercargill Stewart Island can be reached by a short flight or ferry ride.
