Place to Visit: Pogradeci

Gateway to Lake Ohrid & Macedonia

Eastern Albania, Albania

Pogradeci lies in the south-eastern part of Albania, along the shores of Lake Ohrid, the deepest in the Balkans. The border crossing with Macedonia is only 5 km away from the centre. It is a nice town with an ancient history, great scenery and a pleasant climate.

Great Reasons To Visit

  • Circumnavigate Lake Ohrid to fully appreciate its beauty and mountain backdrop.
  • Boat across Lake Ohrid to the World Heritage town of Ohrid in Macedonia.
  • Take to a mountain-bike and explore surrounding trails on two-wheels.

Background

Archaeological excavations on the hill above the town have uncovered a 5th century B.C. Illyrian settlement belonging to the early Desaret and perhaps the Enkelana tribes.

Relaxing

Pogradeci has a good selection of hotels, restaurants and several sandy lake-shore beaches nearby.
