Imagine a country modern and yet with a healthy oriental flavour, where the beaches are picture perfect and backed by ancient ruined cities, where you can walk between ancient villages, kayak over sunken cities, discover great cuisine and friendly people - well welcome to Turkey!
The country's position on ancient trade routes has blessed it with some of the world’s most important cultural gems, from the sights of Istanbul, Cappadocia to those of the Aegean coast. Those who like their fun more active should head west to the aptly named Turquoise Coast, to Dalyan and Kas - justifiably self-styled as the adventure capital of the Mediterranean. In both locations you can indulge in activities such as sea-kayaking, diving, jeep safaris, paragliding and canyoning with much more besides, whilst there is great walking and trekking in the hinterland.
Head east to Cappadocia for wonderful, other-worldly moonscapes in the open-air museum at Göreme, or further still to trek in stunning mountains. The south Mediterranean coast has no less appeal with ancient theatres and eyrie-like fortified cities. Turkey really does have something for everyone.
