Botswana

Land of Wilderness & Wildlife

Botswana is one of the few countries in Africa which has managed to maintain its exclusivity and leave vast areas of wilderness untouched. The people of Botswana have set aside 17% of some of the most beautiful parts of their country as National Parks and Game Reserves. The official policy of the government with regards to tourism is one of high quality and low density as opposed to low cost and high volume. This remarkable foresight by the Botswana government has guaranteed the area’s exclusivity. Extremely strict standards and controls assure the safari traveller the most fulfilling experience possible.

Botswana is home to the luxuriant water channels of the Okavango Delta, one of the great natural wonders of our amazing planet and a bastion for wildlife and birdlife. Wildlife watching in pristine wilderness is probably the main lure for travellers to Botswana and with a variety of National Parks and Reserves it should never disappoint. Chobe National Park, Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Khutse Game Reserve, Nxai Pan National Park and Moremi Game Reserve provide a real contrast of habitats and experiences. Here in a land where vast herds of elephant roam free, and zebra feed peacefully at dusk beneath a scarlet African sunset, game viewing can be equally as good, if not better, than some of the more famous reserves in East Africa.

# Botswana Wildlife Safari

Reviewed by africanick at 09:29 on March, 13th 2008

Compared to other African 'big game' destinations Botswana stands out for its pristine, diverse and vast wilderness and waterways where safari seekers can get a true feel for the vastness of the African bush. Wildlife is abundant in many locations - particularly Chobe, Moremi and certain concessions in the Okavango Delta. Sightings of lion, elephant and buffalo are frequent. Birds are abundant. Boat safaris can be enjoyed in the Delta, on the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers, walking safaris are often possible and game viewing by vehicle is often a private affair.
