Jordan

Lost Cities, Desert Adventures

The friendliness of the Jordanian people is borne from the desert mandate of hospitality, and even today Bedouin traditions remain strong. It is this friendliness coupled with the natural and historic beauty of the country which makes Jordan the justifiably popular destination it is today.

Two thousand years ago, north of today's cosmopolitan capital, Amman, great cities such as Jerash rose. Considered one of the best examples of a Greco-Roman city Jerash proves spellbinding for adults and kids alike who love playing at gladiators in the theatre and seeing where chariots have worn away the paving stones of its main street.

To the east lies the intriguing Desert Castles whilst to the west are the superb mosaics at Madaba and Mt Nebo which speak of a strong Christian tradition. The nearby Dead Sea shimmers in the haze and its here you can float, almost on the surface of the water, before enjoying the therapeutic treatments in exclusive hotels.

There's excellent canyoning in the Wadi Mujib, Crusader castles to explore and trekking opportunities in Dana Nature Reserve, the perfect place to explore on foot with amazing views and rare plants, birds and animals to discover.

South we come to the stunning rock-hewn city of Petra, a "Rose Red" Nabataean city. South at Wadi Rum the nomadic Bedouin welcome travellers who explore by camel and jeep before travelling south to Aqaba to snorkel and dive amongst the wonderful marine life of the Red Sea.
