A spectacular drive through the Western Hajar Mountains brings you to Nizwa, renowned for its goat and cattle market which takes place on Friday mornings, and its majestic 17th Century circular fort. Also on our list are visits to the pottery town of Bahla - where the fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site - and the unforgettable crenellated battlements of Jabrin Fort.

Itinerary

Depart from hotel at 07:00hrs and head out to Nizwa where we visit Nizwa Souk and Fort. Pausing for light refreshments our next stop is Bahla, the pottery capital of Oman, and where potters can be seen busy at work in the heart of the town. The fort at Bahla is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch will be at a local restaurant.

After lunch we'll head to Jabrin Fort, one of the most picturesque in Oman. Originally a 16th century palace it comes complete with decorated ceilings, screened inner courtyards, mosque, library and its own prison - a visit is unforgettable.

Travellers can then choose to visit either the mountain village of Misfat al Abriyyin, clinging precariously to the side of the Hajar Mountains above terraced plantations of date palms and banana trees, or to visit the old town of Al Hamra, at the foot of the mountains, where history comes to life. Finally after a long and rewarding day we return to hotel at around 18:00hrs.
