South Australia spoils you with opportunities to observe and interact with Native Australian wildlife. But the premium destination has got to be Kangaroo Island, just a 30 minute flight from Adelaide, the capital, and is a wildlife paradise. It can easily lay claim to Australia's answer to the Galapgos, due to the vast arrya and huge amount of wildlife on the Island
A third of the Island is made up of National Parks and it is the best place in Australia to find Australia’s unique wildlife existing in there natural habitat. On my short visit we saw kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, eagles, Black Cockatoo's, penguins, Sealions, Fur seals and platypus.
3 of the most amazing experience was to walk on the beach amongst the wild seals, with our guide, and being able to watch them frolic in the ocean or pratise their fighting for the king of the beach title.
We also got to see the Rare Yellow-tailed Black cockatoo flying in formation in the cntre of the island as we stopped at Stranrear homestead for Morning tea.
And finally at our Lunch stop on one of the days, while the BBQ Fish was cooking we got a visit from the a Tammar Wallaby, up close. Notoriously shy animals this guy wnated to see what we were up to so cam quite close for a Photo op.
So get out there and visit this island, make it part of your holiday to Australia. Great for wildlife, sealife and birdlife and added to great fresh food and wine can be found to boot.
