Welcome to the site. Enjoy your trek it sounds like a good one, Ellie.
Hi there, welcome to the site, enjoy!
Hi Elisa - great to see you've had some welcomes from other members - and I also gather some of our local travel experts emailed you as well.I did a gorilla trek in Uganda 3 years ago, in Bwindi Impenetrable N. Park from Buhoma. Buhoma has the widest choice of accommodation of any gorilla tracking spots and good availability for permits (often booked many months in advance).Downside for Uganda is access - the drive from Kampala takes around 10 hours. In Rwanda - you can reach the Virunga Mountains in little over an hour and half from Kigali.Uganda has better flight connections, English is widely spoken, very friendly local people, more add-ons available to a gorilla trek (QE2 NP big game, rafting, Lake Victoria). Let me know if you need any more help. All the operators featured on our site are licenced and professional local companies, all experienced in Ugandan travel. Let me know how you get on.Cheers - Nick
Hi Elisa - Volcanoes certainly operates in both (and owns hi-end accommodation), though I believe both Lake Kitandara and Churchill Safaris (both mid-range operators) can book gorilla permits and accommodation in Rwanda. The alternative is to book Rwanda with a local Rwandan operator - several good ones are established now including 'Primate Safaris' - they are not live on our site yet but you can view their website at http://www.primatesafaris-rwanda.com/To cover your plans for Uganda/Rwanda - 2 weeks should allow plenty of time for 2 gorilla treks, perhaps a visit to QENP (highly recommended), chimp tracking at Chambura Gorge and rafting the Nile. For Ethiopia - Ethiopian Airways fly Addis/Entebbe so access is no problem. For a taster you should really allow a week to take in the highlights of the Historic Route - Bahar Dar, Gondar and Lalibela, and maybe Axum (though tight in a week)... internal flights are the only option in that time - but this is what most travellers use anyway - driving in the north of Ethiopia takes a long time on poor roads.I'd suggest that anything shorter isn't really worth the effort and expense.Hope this helps.Nick
