Well, having staggered off the first leg of my flight from Heathrow to Perth Australia, via Singapore, I was greeted by the news that my next flight was to be delayed by 4 hours. I was already slightly weary from the +12 hours of being sandwiched bet...
I am recently back from a great trip in South Africa, having spent 6 days in Durban and a day or so in Jo'burg. Every time I go back, it reminds me of how beautiful the country really is and so diverse in what it has to offer. But the pleasing fin...

I have just returned from 4 days in the Faroe Islands and I have left with very fond memories of the place and the people. Coming into land in the Avro RJ100 (seats only 97 people), we broke through the cloud cover to a fantastic opening view of t...
I have stayed at the Riad Omar about 4 times now and I really love this place. It is situated literally less than a 1 minute walk from the Djemma el Fna Square and offers a wonderful and peaceful place to stay in a fantastic location. The rooms are fairly standard, but very comfortable and good valu...
After a long days touring round many exciting spots on Kangaroo Island, I was given a very warm reception by the husband and wife team at the hotel. I stayed in one of the newly renovated Deluxe rooms, which was excellent, with very good facilities. Dinner was taken in the very relaxed restaurant/ba...
At just over 3 hours flying time (and plenty of cheap flights) Marrakech is a great place for a short break. A fast growing new town has some good restaurants but is becoming internationalised, so if you want the real cultural experience then head for the Medina with it's busy souks, wonderful palac...
It's giving me itchy feet - wanna get back.

Hi ColinI have travelled extensively, but fairly narrowly...mostly Africa. I visited the Congo a few times as a youngster when we lived on the Zambian copperbelt (Chingola, Bancroft - now Chililabombwe, Kitwe and Ndola). I remember in those days, people driving around in enormous American cars, Cadillacs, Buicks, etc. More recently, I have had a few trips over the border to some of the typical Congo beerhalls, where guitar bands playing the typical twangy African electronic sound are 'de riguer' (they also play a lot in Zambia). Great fun, the last one I attended, with an African employee of Schweppes, I drank all night but was not allowed to buy a round! Such hospitality! Before too much longer, I need to have a look at South America, India, the Far east, and Aussi/NZ...where does one stop? Africa, however, will always be where my heart lies. All the bestCliff
Thanks Colin... I joined here after a very good conversation on Saturday at the Desinations show (with Nikki)I'll make sure I get plenty of pics and a blog going.ThanksHelen
Posting the comment below again on 'your' page - not too sure yet who see what here but when I replied the last day on my own page I still hadn't perused who you were! Luckily I had no derogoratory comment to make about those I met at the H&L fair! Oh, and I am using the mousemat which invites the odd enquiry. Will post a story or two soon...Ta very much for compliment! Just signed on lately - met these guys, or picked up their mouse-mat, at the annual Holiday & Leisure fair in Dublin at end of Jan. That gives you an indication of how much time I spend on the net! But your encouragement might squeeze some ink on paper. Not used to doing that but apparently I chat a batter! But the spoken word oft does not tumble upon the page in orderly lines....
