I'm just sat in the classic old colonial Cafe de la Poste - one of the original old buildings located on Avenue Mohamed V - outside of Marrakech's famous medina. This is a great spot to spend a productive afternoon working on addictedtotravel. Free hi-speed wifi access, excellent and attentive service, ceiling fans, comfy sofas....I'm a regular visitor to Marrakech - every 2 or 3 weeks on average - and the city has grown on me to become my favourite city in the world. I keep asking myself why that is - after travelling to many many great cities over the past 20 years? For me, Marrakech is more than just bustle of Djemaa el Fna, the souks, the ancient monuments and palaces... I rarely set foot in the classic attractions nowadays, spending my time instead in various meetings, with architects, builders and banks.Marrakech is a great 'lifestyle' city and here's why?- The climate is unbeatable and so close to Europe (just over 3 hours flight time from UK).- Great mix of people here. Berber, Arabs, French and a growing band of expat Brits.- Growing choice of cuisine. Thai has taken hold. French a firm favourite. Fusion is a keyword here.- Plenty of things to do. Atlas mountains only an hour away. Skiing, summer walking, biking, ballooning, helicopter flips, camels and quad-bikes. Sahara a day's drive away and Atlantic coast 3 hours....April is springtime in Marrakech - and the blossoms are absolutely stunning - every colour imaginable. What a display. Early morning birdsong is a great wake-up call!Cheers to Marrakech - no wonder it is so popular!
Hi Nick. Can you order me one of Cafe de la Poste's speciality Gin & Tonics whilst you are? And some of their tapanas! So you are in 30 degree sunshine and I am in 9 degree fog on the Faroe Islands, ha! But despite the fog I must say the views of the Islands when coming into land earlier today, were absolutely stunning. Fantastic rugged coastline that has been carved out by the Atlantic Ocean over the years.Been for a long walk round the main town of Torshavn, taking in the harbour and the quaint old houses with the grass growing from the roof and cobbled little alleyways.Meetings all day tomorrow but then I'm off out on Sunday to explore some more of the Islands. Can't wait.I won't be back in Marrakech until late June time, but for now I will take the Faroe Islands for sure.Have a good one, Colin.
