Hi

A few years ago in another incarnation I designed a trip for the adventure holiday company I worked for. It was ages ago and I can barely remember the basics, but here goes.

From Bucharest the natural choice is south to the Danube Delta ofr the birdlife of north to Brasov, a medieval city with UNESCO World Heritage Site status. See: Sighisoara. Visit Bran 'Dracula's' Castle too.

From here you could head up to the "painted monasteries" of Bucovina, at Moldovita, Sucevita, Arbore, Humor and Voronet.

The Zarnesti Gorge is supposed to be good for wildlife watching - bear, wolves and lynx.

I understand that the best way to get around is by car (hire cars are availablke) or failing that, train, for example from Bucharest to Brasov and Sighisoara, and the monasteries back down to Bucharest. Roads can be poor as the country is still - delightfully - undeveloped (though not sure the locals see it that way...) so if self driving take care.

A good and reliable local travel operator is Corbet Trans Air: ask for Jean-Michel or Violetta.

Hope that helps...

Cheers

Carl
