We are travelling to Barcelona for Easter weekend and looking forward to enjoying the Catalan culture. Hotel booked near Los Ramblas and part of itinerary sorted (Gaudi buildings are a must see!!) but wondered if anyone could advise on good places to eat and drink in the city?? We are looking to experience really good Spanish food but any other suggestions would be great.

Any other suggestions on must sees would be great.

And yes I will blog on our return!!!

I went on a stag weekend (yes, I know I'm female!) to Barcelona and we had a great time.

We went down to a new complex on the sea front (well, new 4 years ago!) - there's heaps of restaurants there which serve great sea food and have jugs of margaretas....

The main street is fun to walk down - heaps of street entertainment and the central markets are interesting to walk round too - just wish we could have bought back all the yummy food.

Watch out for pickpockets at the tourist areas.... the street kids are very street wise. Plus there's a racket going on at the airport - one of our bags got nicked off our trolly as we were coming out looking for a taxi.

The police told us to go round the back of the airport to look for the bag, and if it wasn't there, then they'd lodge a theft report!

May have changed though now......

Thanks for that Wadders!!
We'll definitely check out anywhere there are good seafood restaurants.
Your advice about pickpockets is probably useful to anyone visiting any big city!!
Will watch out for the airport thing too.

Anyone else got anything on Barcelona for us?

Hi Ljets,
Try and visit the Can Culleretes, Barri Gotic one evening if you get a chance. It is the oldest restaurant in Barcelona (apparently) and serves traditional Catalan food. The food really is excellent and great value for money, with about Eur 30 you should be able to eat and drink pretty well for 2 people. The atmosphere in the restaurant when we were there was great. It also had a good write up in the Time Out restaurant guide - which I purchased online through Amazon for about £4. Enjoy your trip and have a glass of red for me if you make it to the restaurant!

Thanks Colin. We had a look at that over the weekend and it looks just like the sort of place I was asking about. We'll be booking that and giving it a try I reckon. We'll drink a couple for you while we're there!! LJets :)

You must also definitely see the historical sites there such as Castell de Montjüic-8th century castle sits atop Barcelona's most famous mountain and the Roman City Remains-provides a personal glimpse of Roman influence on Spain and the religious sites there that would fit your Easter getaway such as Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar, Capella de Santa Àgata and the Monastir de Monserrat. The architecture brings a foreboding sense of awe.

Barcelona's a superb city of great bars, restaurants and tapas.
And lots of culture too, of course.

But the best time to go is obviously when FC Barça play Real Madrid at home - and win.
Difficult to predict, but boy, what a fiesta!
