Hi everyone - I just realised it is almost 20 years since I first put a foot on African soil. Despite an unpleasant incident in Ceuta and enduring an Easter Monday evacuation to Gibralter, for some strange reason after that, I just kept on returning. After travelling through 32 diverse nations from north to east and south to west Africa I thought I'd reflect on the places that really stand out in my memory - some of the greatest places that I'd love to return to at some time in the future. I've started with a 'Top 10' but it may well become a 'Top 50' as I keep adding. This is quite personal and each place holds different memories for me, but I've included a snippet of why each one stands out.1. Marrakech - Really atmospheric city with Atlas mountains close by2. Bwindi National Park - Tracking mountain gorillas in mist-shrouded forest3. Zanzibar - Unwinding on exotic Indian Ocean island with Stone Town4. Leptis Magna - 2 days in remarkable Roman ruins on Libya's northern coast5. River Nile - 6 months sailing the Egyptian Nile on a traditional felucca6. Adrar Plateau - Seeing dramatic scenery in little-known region of Mauritania7. Victoria Falls - Viewing one of the world's greatest waterfalls (several times)8. Okavango Delta - Flying over swampland wilderness of Botswana with wildlife9. Santo Antao - Mountainous Cape Verde Island with sensational hiking and views10. Serengeti National Park - Big game viewing safari in Tanzania's grasslands
