Qantas Airways plane plunges 20,000 ft

I'm not normally one for the sensational headlines, but this certainly caught my eye.

This morning a Qantas flight from London to Melbourne, via Hong Kong, had to make an emergency landing in Manila, after a 3 metre hole suddenly appeared in the side of the Boeing 747-400 causing the plane to plummet 20,000ft.

The news report stated that passengers heard a bang and then a rush of air before the plane dropped suddenly.

Eventually the plane landed safely and all of the 346 passengers and 19 crew disembarked without physical injury.

Qantas are now conducting an investigation as to the cause of the hole in the fuselage.

Even though this is a dramatic story, it fills me with confidence of the expertise and skill of todays pilots. Quite amazing!
