Family holiday to Morocco

We started with a few days in Marrakech exploring the Medina, the kids were fascinated by all of the stalls in the main square, with snake charmers, monkeys and more. There are numerous small shops and stalls offering both souvenirs and traditional local clothing. My son was thrilled with his purchase from the souks of a typical Moroccan robe - which he thinks make him look like Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars - it is now his favourite fancy dress costume - and also doubles up well for a School Nativity play outfit.

The streets can get to be very packed so you need to make sure to keep a tight hold on childrens hands. My husband had a very sensible idea - to be recommended - he put a business card with his mobile number on it and the hotel card for where we were staying in the childrens pockets.

Taxis on the whole are easy to find if there are 4 of you, as soon as the number exceeds that you have to wait for a 'grand taxi' which are not as easy to come by as a regular one. It sometimes took us 10 minutes but we always eventually found one.

We organised a private 4WD to take us into the mountains and across to the desert for a few nights as we did not want to do the driving ourselves. This has to be recommended as we ended up with none of the stress of self-drive and our knowledgeable driver/guide knew exactly where he was going and where all the best places were to stop en-route.

Your trip sounds great! We have young kiddies and are looking for a trip in Easter. Can you advise what sort of minimum age do you think is suitable for the type of trip you took? Also, was the food and water and issue with the kids? Any pics? Thanks

Morocco Holiday

Trip was great, the kids enjoyed it - they were aged 6 and 8 at the time, we travelled in April when the temperatures weren't too hot for them (or us) - I wouldn't recommend July and August. The only negative about April is that although the days are nice and warm the nights are quite cool making most swimming pools rather chilly - great for a quick swim but a bit too cold to play around in for too long. Food plentiful in Marrakech (even dare I say it a McDonalds). Outside the cities there is usually always chicken & chips available for the fuzzy eaters who won't try the great local tagines. We stuck to bottled water which is easily available in all towns. Hope that helps you - I will be trying to find time to finish the blog and add some more pics soon.
