Depart hotel at 8am. You will have the opportunity of visiting the Grand Mosque (except on Thursday and Friday) which is one of the most stunning buildings in Oman. Please note that ladies must have their heads covered and wear long sleeves and long trousers. Gentlemen should wear long trousers. Completed in 2001, the main hall can hold 6,000 worshippers.
We get a chance to visit the Fish Souq in Muttrah where you will be amazed at the variety of fish for sale, all caught in local waters by local fishermen with the traditional hand-line used for most catches. We will be able to stroll along the Corniche past the old traders’ houses to the fascinating Muttrah Souq where you can take in the atmosphere or haggle with the locals on the price of silver jewellery, antiques, frankincense, carpets, rugs, pashminas and other Omani souvenirs. We shall have coffee in a traditional Omani coffee shop and then move onto the recently opened Bait al Baranda Museum for an overview of the geology, history and traditions of Oman, or the Bait Al Zubair museum which gives an amazing glimpse of the lifestyle and traditions of ancient and modern Muscat.
We shall have the opportunity of visiting the Sultan's Palace and the two forts, Jalali and Mirani, both of which were built by the Portuguese, and dramatically guard the entrance to Muscat, serving as sentinels to the Sultan's palace.
A great introduction to modern and ancient Muscat.
