The Mafia Island Lodge stands amidst tall palms on a sandy beach in Chole Bay, in the heart of the marine park near Utende village on the South coast of Mafia. The resort is a 20 minute drive from Kilindoni, the main village and the airstrip.
The former government lodge was recently taken over and currently represents the best value of any beach property in the country. Large but family-friendly and located on the best stretch of beach on Mafia, the overall advantages are difficult to ignore.
40 comfortable rooms are set among the coconut palms with their own veranda overlooking the bay. They are all self-contained with air conditioning. Twin and double beds are available. Among the 40 rooms there are 2 family rooms with a large living room. Hot and cold water is available 24 hours a day.

The main lodge has a relaxing atmosphere with a large open restaurant, bar and lounge area. Board games, table tennis and volleyball are also available.
Exciting activities in the marine park are diving, snorkelling and sailing. The Dive Center provides PADI and NAUI Federations' certifications. Mafia Island Lodge organises boat excursions and picnics to isolated islets almost every day, according to the tide, as well as road safaris and trekking. Other activities at the lodge include beach volley and pool table.
The cuisine is continental with an emphasis on seafood. Snacks, sandwiches and bitings are also available.. A selection of alcoholic beverages, wines, beers, juices and sodas are available at the bar.

Good clean well run hotel we stayed here in feb 2006, hotel can organize some excursions for you. Staff were friendly and and the food was pretty good although not gourmet style.all in all I would recomend this hotel for a few nights stay.

Amazing Lodges Character Hotels
One can enjoy the beauty of Mafia even in the space of a weekend but generally, guests spend at least 4 to 5 days. If you would like to enjoy all the aquatic activities and inland excursions stay between 5 and 10 days.

Mafia Island is approximately 25 kilometers off the Tanzanian coast, 130 kilometers from Dar es Salaam which takes approximately 35 minutes by air and 45 minutes from the Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar Island. Mafia is reachable by light aircraft only.
