Kathmandu Guest House is located approximately 7km from Tribhuvan International Airport in the heart of vibrant Thamel, renowned for its restaurants, bars and shopping. The Kathmandu Guest House is a Nepali institution, a former Rana mansion converted into a hotel by Karna Sakya in 1967. Starting with just 13 rooms, it has been slowly grown into an expansive 121-room hotel with many amenities. Today it is reputed to be internationally acknowledged the "best budget hotel" in Kathmandu, a claim not entirely without foundation. The Kathmandu Guesthouse was the first hotel established in Thamel, Kathmandu’s most popular tourist hangout.
The Kathmandu Guesthouse has an impressive record of guests including famous climbers, writers, researchers and numerous world celebrities from the Beatles to Ricky Martin and Oscar winning actor Jeremy Irons. Many books, articles and reports have been written in the famous garden of the Kathmandu Guesthouse.
The Kathmandu Guest House offers 120 rooms of several different standards, from clean yet spartan rooms with shared facilities through to very comfortable AC Deluxe standard rooms – and everything in-between. Prices vary depending upon aspect, such as overlooking the garden, and upon room facilities. Not all the facilities below are available in every room, but are an indiaction of the range of amenities we provide. There is a room for every budget at the Kathmandu Guest House.

This is a popular hotel with a variety of different rooms on offer from basic to very comfortable. No matter what standard of room you are staying in at the Kathmandu Guest House the wide ranging on-site facilities are there for you to enjoy using.
The hotel is ideally located for browsing the winding backstreets of Thamel. Once your explorations have finished for the day retreat to the extensive sub-tropical gardens of the Kathmandu Guest House for a relaxing cool drink or enjoy relaxing in the sauna.
The Bahal Café is a courtyard restaurant serving wide varieties of international cuisine, the Rakshi Bar serves cocktails whilst Laskus is a traditional Newari-style restaurant.

Additional meals can be enjoyed in the hotel’s restaurants or at the many venues in Thamel. Our breakfast is $5 whilst lunch and dinner are $8 each.
No extra charge for children under 12 years occupying the same bed as parents, maximum 1 child per room.

Cancellation before 48 hours prior to arrival will incur no cancellation fee. Cancellation less than 48 hours prior to arrival will incur a cancellation fee of 50%. Cancellation less than 24 hours prior to arrival will incur a cancellation fee of 100%.
