Kasbah Itran is well positioned on the outskirts of the small but busy commercial town of El Kelaa M´gouna, located in the south of Morocco.
The inviting Kasbah Itran is a typical local house with 10 bedrooms and dramatic views over the cultivated lands surrounding the Mgoun river. This stylish and charming locally-run accommodation is built with the same traditional materials used in the Berber villages of the Dades Valley – earth, water and straw, to form adobe blocks. These blocks are then used to make the thick walls. The rooftops are constructed of bamboo stems intertwined with cedar logs.
Kasbah Itran (Itran means star in Berber) has 10 bedrooms, each decorated by hand with cedar wood and bamboo roofs and colourful local tiles, furnished with traditional Berber artifacts. 4 rooms are en suite with another 6 rooms sharing 3 bathrooms (all with hot water showers).

A large balcony overlooks the cultivated lands on the banks of the river Mgoun and is a unique feature of the Kasbah. There is a bright lounge used both as a meeting point and dining room. Kasbah Itran also provides a shuttle service to collect passengers from Ouarzazate airport or Marrakech airport (must be booked well in advance).
The Kasbah is a perfect place to relax and unwind before or after a trek. Good conversation and a little bit of music, with Berber songs accompanied by the drums that Mohamed Tam Tam and Lahcen beat rhythmically, create a relaxing atmosphere.
Even though Kasbah Itran has a modern kitchen it has retained the traditional Berber stove, a clay oven, where they bake their own bread and prepare the most traditional and elaborated Berber dishes. Mohamed Tam Tam is the chef. He is as good at cooking as he is at beating the Tam Tam which he usually plays to entertain guests after meals (once he overcomes his natural shyness). Apart from the delicious lamb and veal stews and the famous Couscous (made of finely ground wheat semolina) there are many other dishes which turn meals into a feast of taste and flavours. Desserts are also delicious.
Built utilising local resources, Kasbah Itran is run by Lahcen and Mohamed and employs local people from the surrounding area. It is a typical house which has been rebuilt with the aim of boosting and developing alternative tourist activities.
