The Lake Palace Hotel sits like a jewel in the centre of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, a dream of white marble and mosaic which can be reached by the hotel's private boat. Built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II, 62nd successor to the royal dynasty of Mewar – believed locally to be descendants of the Sun God - and set against the backdrop of the wonderful Aravalli Hills on one side and the City Palace complex on the other like the Taj Mahal it is the epitome of luxury and romance. Surprisingly large covering some 4 acres of the island the hotel caters to every whim of its distinguished guests, with butlers descended from the original palace retainers looking after guests’ needs. A stay here remains one of the world’s greatest travel experiences.
Rooms
The hotel comprises 83 rooms and 17 suites. Almost all rooms offer a grand view of Lake Pichola along with the City Palace, Aravalis and/or the Jagmandir Palace. As one would expect rooms are well-equipped and beautifully furnished. Room facilities include international dial direct phones, satellite TV, minibars, safe, hair dryer and wi-fi internet connection.

Grand Royal Suites

The Amrit Sagar (hours: 11:00hrs to 23:00hrs) is the perfect place during the day to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea or light meal. In the evening it transforms into the perfect location for a cocktail. The Sadar Ghat Bar on the Grand Terrace faces the lake and allows guests to luxuriate in the sun sipping a drink and reading.
A miniature white marble palace with a hundred windows, Jharokha (open 24hrs), serves contemporary world cuisine with Asian and Mediterranean overtones. Wonderfully-soothing views of the lake add to the relaxed atmosphere.
The Neel Kamal (hours: 12:30hrs to 15:00hrs and 19:30hrs to 23:00hrs) provides classical Indian instrumental as a backdrop for romantic, inspired dining at what is a luxurious restaurant. Wood-fired cooking and a show kitchen produce a large selection of local Rajasthani specialties whilst a comprehensive cellar has an extensive selection of fine wines.
