Located right near the centre of town, the hotel is set in two acres of peaceful park-like tropical gardens. Big mature trees, flowering shrubs and scented vines abound, yet this is within walking distance to the Commercial Business District and many Embassies and Foreign Missions.
Kampala's unique boutique hotel. In a world where multi-national chains and corporate formulae dominate the hotel industry, the Emin Pasha Hotel brings a refreshingly personal face to Kampala, the bustling capital city of Uganda. Gracious and elegant, the Emin Pasha evokes another era when taste, gentle service, ambience and comfort were the hallmarks of a good hotel. We still believe this to be true, but we know that our guests also need modern amenities and up-to-date technology to ensure a happy stay. At Emin Pasha we have created a harmonious balance between old and new. Tradition blends seamlessly with contemporary - from the architecture to the furnishings and soft touches, to those modern amenities that today's business and leisure traveller requires.
We have twenty rooms at Emin Pasha, as well as one self-contained private flat for longer stays. Each room is different in terms of layout, size and decor, but all are decorated with the everchanging African landscape in mind. Each room features hardwood furniture, Egyptian cotton sheets, summer-weight duvets, giant soft towels, long deep cast iron bathtubs (salvaged from derelict colonial buildings and re-enameled) or giant tropical 'monsoon' showers with African slate floors.
Floors in the rooms are made of reconstituted stone and are cool underfoot (very welcome in Equatorial Africa), and each room has at least one oversized armchair or sofa...perfect for curling into with a good book or magazine. Each room looks out through french doors over lush gardens or courtyards and most have small private terraces or sitting areas.
These rooms are on ground level. Each has a small outside sitting area facing the gardens or courtyards. All have en-suite bathrooms with either slate-tiled tropical shower or deep long bath. All rooms are air-conditioned, with internet access, television, direct dial telephone, mosquito nets over the beds.
These ground level suites are large, with a sitting/ lounge area. There is also an outside sitting area facing the gardens and swimming pool. This hotel is the ideal base from which to explore Kampala or to launch a Uganda Safari, to acclimatise to the time and the weather before setting off upcountry.
It also is a civilised and welcome end to a long dusty journey - have a long hot bath or tropical shower, share a bottle of wine on our terrace under the stars, enjoy a fantastic meal with a distinct pan-African and Asian flavour, and drink in the atmosphere before setting off home.
Emin Pasha is the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy what the hotel has to offer. Have a massage, get your toes done, we even have a hairdresser on-call. In the bar - which is completely open to the elements on one side - deep sofas, armchairs and chunky coffee tables invite you to relax and put your feet up. Glowing fires in terracotta pots and waiters in white djellabas and crimson fezes are a gentle reminder that you are in tropical Africa.
The Fez Brasserie and Wine Bar is arguably one of the best places to eat and drink in Kampala. The ambience is inviting and the food is outstanding. Our wine list is extensive and exclusive, chosen by knowledgeable wine enthusiasts and brought in from South Africa on a regular basis and our wide range of cocktails and single malt whiskeys are a regular fixture with our evening guests.
The restaurant, also open to the tropical evening, spills out onto the garden terrace so our guests can eat under the stars if they wish. The dynamic menu changes regularly, reflecting the seasonal freshness of our local produce. Chef Shaun Christian scours the markets and creates the menu around what is fresh and good and local. The offering is eclectic, with clear Pan-African and Asian influences..but not forgetting the more traditional continental favourites.
