Located in Farafra Oasis on the edge of the White Desert, the family-run El Badawiya Hotel is a traditional mud brick-style building with all the modern comforts, offering you comfortable accommodation, great for relaxing both during the day and after a day of activity. Owned and operated by a traditional Bedouin family facilities at the hotel include a swimming pool, a restaurant with rooftop terrace as well as the family’s own farm supplying exclusively organic fruit and vegetables to the hotel. Located on the edge of the White Desert the hotel is the ideal starting point for various desert excursions and can be reached with ease from Cairo and Luxor by bus or car.
The hotel has 12 loft-style rooms together along with 8 rooms all on one level. All have bathroom, fan and mosquito net. There are also 13 newly-built suites comprising of a living area, sleeping area and bathroom. Some of the suites also have a fire place, mosquito net and air conditioning.
The facilities offered include a restaurant with rooftop terrace, swimming pool, excursions into the desert either on camel or by 4WD or hiking.
The hotel features a swimming pool - a distict pleasure in the hot and dusty Western Desert. Specialised safaris can be offered to the visitor by camel or jeep covering all of Egypt’s Western Desert around the oases of Bahariya, Farafra, Dakhla, Kharga, Gilf Kebir, Gebel Uweinat and Siwa. In addition hiking trips in the White Desert can also be arranged. Other activities on offer include: "Save the Environment trip of the Western Desert" (once per year at a fixed date), "Learn Arabic in the Western Desert".
All meals are served in the restaurant or alternatively out on the roof terrace, using fresh organic produce grown on the family’s farm.
The hotel is owned and operated by a local Bedouin family and many of the employees are from the immediate area. This benefits the local people by providing an income in an area where emplyment can be difficult to find. In addition the hotel organises an annual ‘Clean up the White Desert’ trip for volunteers to collect rubbish left behind by rally drivers and less environmentally friendly tourist groups.
