Camp Diani is located alongside the watersports operation and only 30 - 50 minutes from Diani shops, our Office and Makongeni Camp. When you arrive on the sands you will understand exactly why you chose to come to Camp Kenya .
Camp Diani is located close to the fantastic beaches of Galu & Kinondo. The sand is made from fine coral and as such it's snow white and very fine. The beachfront is lined with palm trees and bush and you can see for miles in each direction without having to dodge so much as a towel. Looking out to sea there is one kilometre of shallow water before the main reef and Open Ocean beyond.
In our summer months we take over a collection of simple beach chalets, establish our own beach bar and the location becomes Camp Diani . We use the camp for R&R, as a base for dive groups and it is from here that we run our projects in the Sacred Forest and our Marine Conservation Programme.
A short walk or drive takes you into the heart of a Digo community and it is from here that we normally visit the local 'Mganga' or tribal healer (Witchdoctor!) who will sort out any ailments you have should you prefer this to Diani Hospital (just kidding). Many of the surrounding people rely on fishing for their livelihood and you will see the fisherman coming ashore each day with a fresh catch.

The accommodation at Camp Diani is smack on the beach and comprises small thatched chalets or 'Banda's'. There are 2 sizes of Banda and they sleep 4 - 8 people in twin rooms comfortably furnished with Swahili furniture.
Each Banda has an en-suite bathroom and small kitchen unit with a veranda facing the beach. The Banda's are located under the shade of the palm trees and every year we have to send a team up into the trees to clear all the coconuts. Did you know?.. several people are killed every year by falling coconuts!!!
A mixture of solar power and generator provides power for the camp and there are British, 3 pin sockets in camp for you to power and charge your electric items and batteries. Please, no hairdryers or play stations!
Our ethos of employing local people to benefit directly from tourism works brilliantly and Camp Diani is no exception. For July and August we recruit a local team to act as housekeepers, handymen, cooks, security and management.
Mobile phones work perfectly at the Camp..unfortunately!!! It's actually essential for us but can prove a distraction to you guys when you have your ipod plugged in, sun is out and you are chilling out with a good book. We also have radio communications directly to the other camps and the office.
Camp Diani is supported by all of our available transport, which varies from minibus to 4x4 overland vehicles in the summer season. Local, safety vetted taxis are available for a small fee to transfer between camp and Diani town.
On the beach itself we run a Beach Bar exclusively for you and have regular music nights and local performers. The Masai visit us every week selling souvenirs and jewellery and you can buy beautiful Sarongs (Kikoy's) from the Mama's on the beach. That is after all pretty much all you will wear during your time on the sand.
We erect our own Lifeguard tower on the beach and have a safe area of waterfront, which is permanently patrolled by our own lifeguard crew, fully equipped with safety kit. A volleyball court is the final cherry on the cake.
As with all our camps the food is excellent and cooked on camp. We set up a field kitchen in July and August and local cooks supply a daily menu of fresh, local produce. The camp cooks who live in and around each camp are responsible for providing three square and healthy meals per day .
Beach BBQs are a regular highlight of your stay at Camp Diani and a wide range of diets can also be catered for including vegetarian and vegan. Unlimited drinking water is supplied in the camp; the water is purified through well-maintained European standard filters thus reducing risk of waterborne diseases.
Soft drinks and beer are available from our bar at cheap prices.
The main projects run from Camp Diani centre around the Sacred Kaya Kinondo Forest and our Mwamba (Reef) Conservation Project (MCP).
